I go on gamefaqs and the guy there says that the number one priority is to keep population and money both down. All my kids are fat, corrupt retards because of growing up with so much money and only the worst generals want to marry my daughters. (I paid some tiny greek city I was tired fighting with 30,000 just to sign the cease-fire). My treasury is 280,000 gold even though I basically throw money out of the window. Meanwhile my income is about 30,000 gold a turn (this is still with lowest possible tax everywhere). Every five turns I get a plague breaking out somewhere and public disorder. Take over a town, don't kill or pillage anybody and start investing in farms, roads, public health etc.Īnyway by 240 BC I have eleven towns. That along with taking over independent towns with my one big attack army was my basic strategy: First thing I noticed was how huge the revenue was from each town and that you could put taxes right down to lowest and still have enough income to recruit new troops. So I thought I'd play this game in a kind of intelligent way. I'm not talking about the battles because I didn't bother with them (I'm just there for the empire building). I started on easiest level as the Scipiians. Im sure having emergent factions/re-emerging factions and civil wars a la MTW would also be nice.I just got Rome: Total War today so I was playing it. WE NEED A LOT, I MEAN A LOT OF REGIONS, im sure its rubbish having only 7 cities in italy, having a big number of cities, say 15 in Italy, and having to control each one would give the campaign a challenge. On the subject of campaign, supply logistics would help in slowing expansion so the player cant just blitz, aswell as when you conquer a city, you cant just move on, you have to subjugate the population, who will NOT be welcoming you with open arms, thats another thing to stop blitzes, and about cities. It was boring having the seleucids dying EVERY game.Īlso a seperate population for horses, so that you cant just spam cavalry like a boss, successor states were in fact lacking horses.Ī cleverER campaign AI that doesnt need to cheat.

Once you have conquered.them all you can change your faction name to the confederation of gaulish tribes, same goes to britons, hispanics and germans, historical egyptians. Instead of just having gaul, you have auedi, arverni belgae sequalni etc. They get Early Legions sooner, but are weaker, and then the normal Legionaries are recruited sooner also, with no stat change.

Lowered attack values of remaining troops, raised their defense values slightly. Changed the map slightly, Dalmatia and Illyria now both have access to the sea, and Cyrene (sp) has more territory, cutting off Leptis Magna and Siwa.Īnd as for the Romans? No more Urbans or Praetorians. I also changed the starting diplomacy and moods towards each other. Helped some factions like Macedon out a bit. I also updated some ports, barracks and some other buildings. They lost their chariots, gained Companion cavalry as well as War Elephants. They have the traditional militia, levy, phalanx troops of the other Successors, while keeping their Axemen and advanced phalanx troop (Nile infantry?). I hate that they are in the game at this time period, but meh, I'll keep them.Įgypt is now changed into a more Greek style. Parthia starts out with one territory, with their army poised to take another lightly defended town. They now dominate the East like Hannibal at Cannae. Seleucids got more territory, more money, and more of a starting army. The Sacred Band and Poeni still have the ability though, and are more Macedonian than classical phalanx. And now the hoplites are more shield-wall than Macedonian phalanx, with the loss of the phalanx ability. Macedon has more territory, as well as more money to face the stupid Greeks who usually dominate instead of the other way around. Spain also got a warband, which is the staple of all barbarian factions. And on the Germans note, most of their infantry now scares people, and I changed how they got some of their troops. The Britons are confined to their island, giving the Germans and Gauls a drastically better chance at living. Gave Gaul a more connected territory, changed how they, and every barbarian faction, gets Naked Fanatics, who now scare other infantry (like they were suppose to I might add!). I also changed their temples, new bonuses and descriptions. Gave Carthage more territory, gave them better troops (Scutarii, Numidians), and boosted their original roster as well as Numidians cavalry, which can now take on Equites one on one. You mean what am I doing in my mod right now?
